Buick Photos

Welcome to my Buick photo album. This is a set of photos showing what I have done on my 55 Buick Special so far in its, well refresh. I don't want to call it a restore because I am making some minor changes to the car to make it my oun. I hope to get it to the point where it will be a summer daily driver. After all the car was made to drive everday. Not just to a car show on the weekend. The Blue paint on the car looks good in the pictures but take it from me the last guy who had this car painted it without putting a primer coat on it first and painted it with a Wagner Power Painter. You could scrape the paint off with you finger nail.

What I had to work with.

I started by pulling the nose off the car so I could remove the engine/trans at once. I also wanted to clean and paint the engine and engine bay. The reason I started this was the Trans. out put seal failed and if you know Buicks of the era you know you must pull the engine/trans or the rearend to get to this seal. I went with the former.

Engine Bay Before I started

The engine bay had been painted at least 3 times with spray paint. The engine had been painted as well a time or two. The radiator was also nasty looking.

Engine Bay Before I started

After a good power washing I found that all the motor mounts were bad. So much so that when I pulled the motor I did not have to unbolt them to lift it out. In the Buick the motor keeps the rearend in place. Things must have looked weird under the hood going done the road. But you could not feel it.
